Music genres
Alternative Rock:
Examples of alternative rock
‘When you were young’ - The killers
The settings for both videos are quite abnormal.
Muse-starlight
set theirs on a ship in the middle of the sea
Lots of close ups
of playing instruments
Longshots of big
open area but them playing shows they love music and that’s what they care
about not where they are or what they look like
No need to over
dress
Just them and the
music
Lots of use of
red. Meaning??....?? ship guitar flares lights in crew cab red lighting
The Killers-when you were young
Both bands appear
to be wearing smart-casual clothing, which appears that seems to be quite
popular within the genre
In ‘starlight’
the lighting used is an ambient light
Whereas ‘when you
were young’ has part shot inside where the lighting is quite limited at times.
Different styles of lighting such as ‘side lighting’
Nickelback-someday
the song was released August the 5th 2003 it reached no1 in Canada and top 10 in the UK(No6)
the song is set in major city in America
two charactors playing a "broken" relationship
the woman is cry and packing her suit case while the lyrics say "i wish you'd unpack you suitcase"
a key point in the video is when the woman steps in the spilled milk and when she walks away she leaves foot prints but when the male walks in the milk he doent leave any foot prints this would sugget he is not alive and just a figure. the video then goes on the see the woman in the jeep and the man chasing the car but when she looks back in the mirrior there is no one there although the man is chasing her the video progress to see the woman still driving carlessly and runs a red light and get hit by a very large lorry and we then see them together this would tell us that she has just dies also and they are now togther.
Reasonable start Danny. Try listing as many common features of the genre and then find screenshots to support. I'd recommend doing a deeper analysis of Someday as it is rich in intertextuality and is typical of a Nickelback video - narrative with performance from the band. You also need to look at two more musical genres.
